Recently, in the meeting of the Interim Committee under the chairmanship of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, it was decided to reserve Rs 20 crore as an initial amount for the relief of the flood victims and major decisions were taken for the affected people in various areas. Reiterating the commitment to this decision,
Afterwards, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami paid obeisance at the historical Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib in Sultanpur Lodhi where he prayed for the strength of the people fighting the floods.
Talking to the media, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the people have suffered a lot due to the floods in Punjab. While the crops of the farmers have been destroyed, the sand in the lands has also created a big problem for the farmers. He said that the Shiromani Committee has been continuously active in the affected areas since the days of the flood and today 8000 liters of diesel have been provided to the flood victims and also 38000 thousand liters of diesel were announced by the President Dhami.
He said that the biggest problem for the farmers affected by the floods of Sultanpur Lodhi is to level the fields and make them suitable for sowing, for which the Shiromani Committee will provide a total of 8 lakh liters of diesel to the needy. Along with this, good quality wheat seeds will also be provided to farmers with less than 10 acres of land and Rs 50 thousand will also be provided for the repair of Guru Ghars.
The Shiromani Committee President demanded from the Punjab government that VAT be removed from the diesel given to the farmers, so that maximum help can be provided to the people. Appealing to the Sangat, he said that the relief work being done by the Shiromani Committee is being done with the support of Guru Ki Golak and the Sangat. Therefore, the devotees should contribute generously to these works.
During the meeting, President Dhami also targeted the Punjab government, saying that people are helping each other on their own. The government is nowhere to be seen.
